T&Ps Please: Subchorionic Hemorrhage

I ended up in the ER yesterday with some spotting (that stopped by last night). Diagnosed with Subchorionic Hemorrhage and threatened miscarriage. So far baby is okay. The heartbeat was 166. Told to rest, drink lots of fluids and follow up with my Dr today or tomorrow. I woke up this morning to more spotting/bleeding. I am now having to wear a pad. I'm super scared.
Has anyone had any experiences with SCH that has turned out okay?

I had them in my first trimester. I actually had several of them that were surrounding the baby. (One was even behind the baby's head) They also warned me about the risk of late-term miscarriage. It can be very scary.

They just closely monitored me at MFM with several follow up ultrasounds up until my A/S. I also was told absolutely no heavy lifting and to relax with my feet up as much as possible and drink tons of water. Mine finally disappeared around week 20.

My Ob told me it is one of top causes for bleeding in the first tri and that it happens to the majority of women in some point in their pregnancy. They will eventually drain (which is why you are bleeding) or reabsorb into the uterus. Usually, the SCHs bother the mom more than it actually bothers the baby :)

    Feel better!

  • I'm sorry you had a scare. I think your doctor will reassure you today. They categorize everything as a threatened mc in the ER but it does not mean that!

Relax, rest and feel better today.

  • I know about the grounds for threatened miscarriage. The Dr at the ER said they "have to call it that for any bleeding less than 20 weeks".  DH's cousin is an OB/GYN back east so he was texting her asking her what questions to ask in the ER. I was feeling okay about it when the bleeding stopped. But seeing it again this morning freaked me out all over again. My RE office should be open in about 30 minutes. I will be on the phone with them asap. I have a schedule U/S for tomorrow that we had scheduled two weeks ago. But maybe he will see me today.

  • I just got off the phone with the nurse at my RE's office. I told her about my trip to the ER yesterday, diagnosis and the bleeding today.  She is not concerned. She said its not uncommon and that the Dr will look at it tomorrow. So the couch will be my best friend until tomorrow's appointment.

  • Lots of T&P's your way. I'm sure it will be fine as well. In my first tri I had bled quite a bit right after my BFP, and it really freaked me out. I spot every couple of weeks but my Dr. hasn't given me a real reason why I do. He just assures me everything looks fine and baby will be ok.

  • I'm so glad that the doctors office was reassuring. take it easy today and definetly keep us updated!
  • I have 2 success stories for you:

At 6.5 weeks I went to the bathroom and filled the toilet with bright red blood, we thought for sure the pregnancy was over with, went to the RE, and we saw a flutter of a heartbeat for the first time. The RE did see a black area on the ultrasound and thought it was SCH. I bleed for about 1-2 days on and off, and now I am 24 weeks pregnant!

A friend of mine, had a very large SCH, and bled large amounts of blood, plus tissue. She thought for sure she was miscarrying, went to the ER, saw a beautiful heartbeat. She was diagnosed with a SCH. She had a few bleeding episodes throughout her pregnancy but delivered a healthy baby boy last May! She is now pregnant again and has never bled this pregnancy.

    Stay positive!

  • I know it is easier said than done, but try not to worry too terribly much. They are extremely common (some places even refer to it as implantation bleeding) The VAST majority of the time, they cause no harm to the baby.

  • I had light spotting at 5 weeks with R. It had fine away but with a history of miscarriage they still wanted me taking it easy. At 7 weeks it went from brown spotting to bright red gushing. I swore I had another miscarriage and told W there wasn't any point in even calling until morning. The dr got me in and everything was fine. I was put on pelvic rest, limited time up, no lifting over 20 lbs and couldn't be in a car for more than 2 hours. First tri about killed me! But we now have a happy healthy 9 month old boy! Mine was bad enough that the dr sent me to a MFM because their equipment was having a hard time seeing the baby because the bleed was too big and the MFM had better equipment. It's scary but can be completely normal.

  • I had a SCH with my DD. I bled on and off from week 5 until about week 12. I was pink, brown, and even bright red at times. I had no other problems the entire pregnancy and DD is now a very healthy 2 1/2 yr old.

From what I understand they typically will resolve by being reabsorbed or bleeding out and depending on location are usually not as scary as they seem. Hope it resolves quickly!

  • Yes, I still worked.  I was put on pelvic rest up until 20 weeks I believe, but that was the extent of it.

    .image

  • No but I worked in a truck factory (building medium duty semi trucks) and there was no light duty and the dr didn't want me on my feet for 10-12 hours a day. I chose not to go back even when cleared after first tri was over and SAH with DS now.

  • Yeah it seems different doctors react differently and I'm sure they take your OB history into consideration as well. I hope it's just a small one that resolves itself. As for PP mentioning late term miscarriage and preterm labor, my dr said that most resolve themselves and you only need to worry about preterm labor if it does not heal itself. My dr said that if mine hadn't slowed and/or stopped by 12 weeks that he would try to stop the bleed. I never asked how because I was scared shitless and only half hearing what was going on after he discussed the chances of preterm labor with me. If you are rh- they might give you a rhogam shot as well. Mine did but I know that others didn't get it. Maybe it was because if the extent if my bleed though.

  • The day I found out, I was in a lot of pain so I took the day off. I went back to work the next day but took it really easy (I have a desk job, but it requires me to sometimes lift packages and walk around a lot). I let coworkers do things for me for around a week before I felt comfortable enough to start doing those things again

  • Oh and as pp mentioned I also got a rhogam shot at the time since I was Rh- as well.
